I usually prefer a white, clean space, but am slightly, ridiculously in love with the salvage look too.. Here’s a fantastic example of that particular style, which was a collaboration between London architects Stiff + Trevillion and the team from the excellent salvage specialist website,  Retrovious.  Images via the brilliant site : Remodelista, which you should really visit if you’re doing up your house/workspace. Excellent resources and inspiration.

How to survive when you have no monies for clothes? Rob your friend’s old t-shirts, and rip the neck/back/sleeves out of them. The t-shirt in the top photo is one of my all-time favourite pieces of clothing right now, and as I type this, I am still wearing the checked shirt I robbed from him a week ago. *insert evil laugh*

Thanks..and sorry! D.

I had to repost these illustrations from the utterly fantastic fashion blog : Stylebubble. I would give my left arm or at the very least, a little finger, to be able to create fashion illustrations such as these ones from Danish Design School  graduate Ann-Sofie Madsen. The images of her actual finished garments show how well she translated her pieces from the thoughts in her head, which I imagine is an incredibly difficult thing to do, unless you;re somewhat of a genius like Ann-Sofie. View the rest of the images oer on Stylebubble >>here<<.

Dave Coffey, the writer, director and actor from the satirical mockumentary ’Dan & Becs’ has a new Tallaght version of  said same“Dan & Becs” airing on RTE2 on September 14th… …“Sarah & Steve” was written and directed by Dave, and also written by Emmet Kirwin who plays ‘Steve’.

‘Sarah and Steve” is a sweet and incredibly funny look at the relationship between shop assistant ‘Steve’ and hairdresser ‘Sarah’, who is played by the quite brilliant and pretty Charlene Gleeson.

Take a look at the promos, become a fan of them on facebook, tell your friends, and generally show some Irish talent the love.

My hair is generally living off by itself in a land of dementedness, in fact it’s the king of that land. Yes my hair is a man, it seems.  Sometimes when shooting, the down look just won’t work with me, so like today I just try and hold it up like a garda with a drunk auld lad. I’ve heard of things like clips and hairbands, but I just don’t think they’ll catch on. Hands will do.

I’m also trying to up my game on my own images here on blanaid.com..this casual outfit seemed harmless enough to start with…. Thanks to Dave from The Coffey Filter  for wandering around with me, taking these and generally being awesome and win about the whole photo thing.

Pleather Boys’ jacket : Oxfam €5.00

Checked shirt : Robbed from a friend.

(His shirts are my favourite casual things to wear for sure. I’ll continue robbing them til’ he has none left, then we’ll get to go shoppiiiing!)

Navy Trousers : €5.00 in the sale in Vila, hence the heinous fit.

Man’s belt : River Island.

Incredibly old wedges : Faith, €8.00 in the sale.

irish-fashion-bloggers-lunch2-blanaid

I’ve taken it upon myself to shorten the Irish Fashion Bloggers’ to the I.F.B  in the title of this post -  I like how it makes us sound like a Secret Service or something. A covert underground sect of fashion ninjas that attend clandestine meetings once a month to secretly plot their onslaught on the blogosphere. Yeah - that sounds dramatic. I like it. Oh wait…I’m reliably informed the Irish Film Board have this as their eh…secret code name. Dammit.

…While it isn’t remotely as dangerous as that, the Irish Fashion Bloggger’s Brunch IS a lovely thing to do of a once-a-month day, and this month was especially special. It was the anniversary of the very first one, organised then and still by the lovely Annmarie O’Connor of IBlogFashion. She had arranged a special treat for all of us on Sunday to commemorate the occassion, upstairs in the First Floor Restaurant in Harvey Nichols, in the Dundrum Shopping Centre.

The Food & Drink.

The head chef Thomas Haughton had prepared a special menu to celebrate the anniversary. There was a mixed summer berry starter, followed by an assiette of Harvey Nichols amouse bouches..which was a plate full of teeny tiny samples of the Harvey Nichols brunch selection - my favourite way to eat - little bits of everything. Then there was the big juicy lump of meat that was the chargrilled beef skewer and for dessert there was a mango and passionfruit cheesecake served with a selection of sliced exotic fruits. There was also a hell of a lot of Bellinis and Bloody Marys, but as I was heading to a christening in Greystones after, I stuck with the lovely, chilled, freshly squeezed orange juice.

The Goody Bags.

Free Stuff! The people at Harvey Nichols Press Department were seriously generous. The bags were stuffed with :

TWO Nars full sized glow and matte foundations. A Benefit Blusher. Liz Earle SPF and suncare stuff. James Brown Hair Serum. False eyelashes. Collagen facelift marshmallows (!!) Elemis face mask and lots of other samples and delights. Good times. Thank you!

The Peoples.

Such a lovely selection of people from blogs across the country, that are heading into my blog roll… including the very dapper Cillian from Male-Mode, Dublin Streets, Fashion Filosofy, Bluebirds are so Natural, Indigo & Cloth, and loads of others…oh and a big congratulations to Aisling from Beaut.ie on the publication of her new book!

Me outfit.

**IMAGE TAKEN FROM THE BLOG : DUBLIN STREETS!**

Managed to sleep on the ‘hair’ (see below) for the five hours that I got to bed on Saturday night. Had to have a shower with a tesco bag on my head though. Not over my face…that would have been silly. The lovely Dublin Streets took my photo for their street style blog - thrilled! Check it out  > here! < on their blog! The outfit was a veritable, and unusual for me, feast from the High Street:

Harem trousers : Topshop

Gladiator Sandals : River Island

Boy’s jacket : Oxfam

Fur stole : Vintage.

Man’s belt : River island

Cropped Vest : Topshop

Finally, a huge thank you to Annmarie for the invitation, and for all of her organisational skills! It was a total success.

blanaid-hair-21

First of all, let me say, I know these photos are terrible. I need to get a new camera. I will get a new camera. I’m going to type a letter to Oprah or Ellen and ask them to send me one.

Went a little mad on the gruaig for the Saturday night of dancing, followed by the Sunday Irish Fashion Blogger Anniversary Brunch…(more on that in a tad…)

I have been going to the same hairdresser for a few years now, Joan, as unlike a lot of hairdressers - she does what you bloody well ask her to do!! Aaand she has enough know how to actually *shock horror* add her own twist to it…. almost like what you would expect from a hairdresser, but it is SO hard to find.

Here’s the science bit etc etc…This afro-hican consisted off large rollers on the underneath layer of hair, small rollers on the top, interspersed with ‘figure of eight’ backcombed curls. It’s all set and then backcombed like hell. Sections are tied with TIIIIIGHT elastic bands, while the rest is brought up and kept in place with clips.I added a necklace from Monsoon to the right smooth side, under the fro part, for a bit of interest…

P.S This look got a lot of compliments in Tripod on Saturday night, which was a very pleasant experience.  I love drunk people compliments! They always really want you to believe them… ” No I meally rean it… I do I mean it….” Great fun, and thank you indeeedio.

Dress : Topshop backless vest dress

Fur as sleeves : Vintage

Over the knee socks are just black tights from Penneys cut up…

Incredibly high shoe boots : Topshop.

Bangles : A mix of vintage and Penneys and H&M.

The images she takes for her own style are seriously hot. In fact I would go so far too say that she has the most sexual personal style blog out there, and I don’t even like the ladies in that way. Hmmmm, mehthinks it’s time to shake my images up a bit here on Blanaid.com…just have to get my camera sorted.

As everything was all a-to and a-froing last week, I never posted about ‘The Lovely Surprise.’ ‘The Lovely Surprise’ occurred last Saturday when I was sitting in my parent’s house, eating their food, drinking their tea and reading their Saturday’s Irish Times Magazine. I stumbled on an article on social networking, and recognised the photo from The Irish Fashion Bloggers’ Brunch that I attended last month. So I read on…lo and behold, Annmarie O’Connor had mentioned this very site in her interview with Rosemary Mac Cabe! It was so funny, I was saying ‘No way!’ and my mam was saying ‘What?!’…’No way!’…’What?!’…’No way! That’s mad!’…’WHAT!!’…etc …ha ha! It was a great little moment.

So thank to you Annmarie O’Connor over at I Blog Fashion, and Rosemary Mac Cabe . Read the article here > Irish Times.

After experiencing the loveliness of Amiina at St. Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny on Sunday night (part of the ‘Wired’ programme for the Kilkenny Arts Week ), I felt the need to inject myself with a healthy dose of Sigur Ros. Especially as Kjartan from Sigur Ros was playing with Amiina on Sunday, and the man is just beautiful. *sigh*

I’m in a somewhat …. mood today so my choice is ‘Ara Batur’ from the latest album ‘Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust.’

Do me a favour - go to your room, close the curtains, lie down. Get comfortable. Put on this song. Turn it up. Close your eyes and wait for the amazingness that happens 7 minutes and 45 seconds into it…

Such a lovely post on the excellent site; Remodelista. I was just talking to my mother about this the other day : I have a rental apartment with no distinguishablel features, save for some lovely big windows, and wanted to add something of interest quickly and cheaply. I was going to use the trunk of a silver birch, stripped of branches, wedged between floor and ceiling. Never did it though, and then I stumbled across this post, and now it’s reignited the fire of eh…wood..so to speak.

See more images over on Remodelista.

I’ve wanted a cream blazer for a while, but unwilling to fork over the monies I need for  food and other such frivolous things, I very luckily managed to unearth one in that huge second-hand shopping spree for a FIVER! Good times. The buttons on it are awful, but I picked up a packet of mis-matched gold buttons in the same shop for a euro. I’ll get around to that shortly….and no, I don’t know why I look so cross in the middle photo, I’ve done my best to blot it out. I should be happy! I got a blazer for a fiver!

Blazer : €5.00 Second-hand shop

Cream vest : €16.00 Topshop
