1.The first image is from an amzing blog called >banshee beats.< The owner creates collages of her outfit posts that are beyond the realms of brilliance. They reminded me how much I wanted to do that type of thing with this blog, so I’m going to get that back on track.

Okay, I think I now need those Ashish boots that Rumi’s wearing. I have them in my basket on Topshop.com. Do I, don’t I, do I, don’t I… I probably don’t, if I’m thinking straight. But they look AMAZING. Then again she is a gorgeous stick insect, so most things look great on her… arrgh so torn!
That Rumi girl from fashiontoast is a serious hottie!!
Heres a question for you Blanaid:
I was following a style blog online (I wont mention the name) of some american girl. It was really just daily pictures of her in different outfits. None of her outfits ever really stood out to me, they’re all a bit meh - But Ive never left comments on her page.
So a couple of days ago I noticed she posted a Code of Comments on her page that went loosely like this:
”No negative comments. Im not looking for style pointers”
No back and forth on how you’d wear the outfit. No comments on my hair”
”Weight is not up for debate”
This really annoyed me. I definitely agree with the weight thing. So I read back through previous entries. I should point out that she’s into thrift shopping and alters alot of her outfits. Thje only negative comments I could find were something along the lines of:
”that coat is interesting. i wouldve altered the hem a different way” (she doesnt moderate or delete negative comments)
There was nothing nasty or rude left on her blog. So alot of people took issue with this arguing that Its a proffessional blog for which she receives money from advertisers and she has no right to be so presumptive that she thinks that she can repress people’s opinions. Also by the fact that she posts up pictures with a slogan ”what do you think?” she is promoting discussion. Another point put forward was as long as comments were respectful and just offering up opinion, people should be allowed to post acccShe responded by saying that its rude. Inher profile section she said that she is vain and a self professed ‘’style icon”. idiot
OK rant over! phew sorry for the long post. Just wanted to know what you thought.
Hmm interesting thoughts Sinead..hadn’t really thought about it til now although I will point out that I thought it was a weird that a blog I follow, also American has ‘temporarily removed’ the comment enabling on her blog, she felt that the blog was simply to show her pictures and she wasn’t really interested in or affected by comments left by readers and so didn’t want them..this seemed to happen after a succession of negative comments she received..what do you think about that one?
Also re the Ashish boots, love them! I’ve posted them on my blog last week but am still undecided on them as don’t think they are very versatile and not sure I can justify them right now!
Correct me if im wrong but isnt a blog site for the owner to blog about themselves???
I think that if you are blogging you can delete what you want but I personally dont think I would I see all opinions as helpful except of course anyone who is downright rude and threatening or just plain stupid really. I dont think people commenting should argue what the blogger should or should not be allowed to put on their site. This is of course only my humble opinion
Hey Sinead,
Very interesting point, and thank you for the post!
Personally, I never moderate comments, nor would I, unless it was weight or face related. (I can’t help how my face looks, and even on the Stylebitches I try to stay away from commenting on celeb’s facial features.) If someone hated my outfit, or would have worn it another way, I would of course allow the comment to remain, providing it wasn’t just some ‘hayterrr’ comment, that it was somewhat informed, and possibly even constructive.
I think her general idea of a personal style blog is just to share your taste with those that appreciate it, you know, this is her taste, it isn’t open for discussion, just look and like or feck off basically. Personally, I don’t see personal style posts in that way. Yes, it’s my personal style, and I’m not likely to change at this stage, but I also appreciate that any taste related post provides a forum for discussion. In fact, most bloggers would welcome a little discussion in their comments section.
So I guess I, and a lot of bloggers, differ from her in that regard. However, it is her blog, and regardless as to whether she makes a living from it, it’s completely up to her to make the rules. I imagine though, that she will see her hits drop substantially if she takes such a hard line, and in turn her advertising revenue will fall. Perhaps she doesn’t care though, perhaps for her, it really is just about self-expression.
So in conclusion to this ramble, I don’t agree with her line, but as it’s her blog, I think everyone has to just respect her choice.
Great comment though, will you PM me the blog? HAVE to check it out!

Hey Diary,
I think I know that site, and I completely agree with her decision. We know that it’s basically a full time job running a blog, and the last thing you want to do is moderate hundreds of comments and weed out the really nasty ones. The hating comments she was getting were beyond mean, and nothing to do with the clothes, unlike the one comment left on Sinead’s example. So I think fair play to her, I’d probably do the same if I were her… No-one needs that negativity in their lives!
That’s just my opinion anyways..!

Mailed you there to your gmail! Happy stalking! You might like her style. It doent do much for me personally!
ya Id never really comment if I didnt like someone’s outfit on a blog. But seriously if I was a blogger or working in fashion It’d be different. I dunno I think its her snotty atitude that rubs me the wrong way! Anyways Ill get over it!:) I dont follow her blog anymore
Hey Sinead! Thanks, I got that…stalking away! I actually know her blog, but wasn’t a frequent visitor.
I think you’re right, it’s more her attitude that is rubbing people up the wrong way than her points…

Hmmmm think I know the blog you’re talking about. I know of one blogger who has received much press attention in the US in the last year who has disabled comment posting on her blog and I understand why. This girl was getting a lot of flak and jealousy for issues which were unrelated to her style and clearly motivated by jealousy and bitterness. Very uncool, totally irrelevant, and so I can totally understand her position.
Have also seen a very well known English blogger (is it VERY uncool to name names?) who has recently posted verbatim some of the comments she has received about her writing style and addressed them publicly. Very funny!
Hey Alex, I think it would be fair to mention both those blogs, I’d like to check them out!

First is Sea Of Shoes - http://seaofshoes.typepad.com/sea_of_shoes/2009/11/ysl-moschinoalso-losing-my-comment-section.html
and second is Liberty London Girl - http://www.libertylondongirl.com/2009/12/anonymous-comments.html.
Definitely agree with the weight/face thing! P.S just re-read my post. Apologies for the crap spelling. Must’ve been thinking faster than I was typing
Apparantly the blogger from http://seaofshoes.typepad.com/ (cant remeber her name) said one time that she hates overly negative and nice comments in equal measure. She finds the overly nice ones boring and prefers active discussion and debate on what she wears
she should get herself over to stylebitches - she’d have no shortage of a good oul argument!!!:)
ooh didn’t know all that - the girl I’m talking about is quite young I think..but if it’s pure jealousy and not style related then fair enough,I haven’t seen any of her comments - I came across her blog after seeing her featured on a certain popular fashion programme and perhaps this explains a lot..running a successful blog is a full time job indeed so fair play to anyone that is committed and builds up a stong band of followers and esp to have the confidence at a very young age..
so…when in doubt, wear it all?
Exactly Blau!
Thanks for the links Alex, they got caught in my sensitive spam queue, just seeing them now! Sea of Shoes makes an eh…interesting point >
“I have never seen the point of a feedback system on a personal style blog.”
…which got me thinking, why do us personal style bloggers have comments sections at all, based on Sea of Shoes argument? Well here’s my answer, eh…even if it wasn’t asked for!
(Prepare for considerable rambling now…3..2..)
I know myself that, as a frequent blog visitor, sometimes I just really want to tell the blogger - ‘I love that!,’ and acknowledge that hey, I was here, visiting you, took some time out of my day, and it was worth it, keep it up! etc etc…I never saw leaving comments as ‘unnecessary’, just well, a little note to the owner of the house after a pleasant visit.
Personally, I am more than thrilled when people do take the time to say, you know what, I liked that, I’m going to click on the little comments thingy and write some words, just to say I liked that…. Because the whole reason I put the post up was to say; I like this, do you? Otherwise. Well…what IS the point of a blog? If I wanted to just collate images so I can remember outfits, or images from other sites, or new collections, or whatever, I could keep them in a folder on my desktop. The idea was to share them with people who might also like them. If I were to then turn off my comments, I feel it would be like saying ‘Here it is…what do you think…NO don’t tell me!’..
Again, this is all based on the circumstances of just having a blog and turning comments off because people have an opinion. I still agree with bloggers turning them off when they’re getting a considerable amount of nasty stuff. Nothing is worth having that kind of negative bull in your life.
Until, if, when, etc I do get the haters, I’m just going to keep on posting, enjoying any comments, and having a bit of craic with the whole thing. That was the idea of it all in the first place, and I hope I never get to the stage where that has to change.
Ramble, ramble, ramble…
