A lady called Betty Parsons recently passed away - she was a mid-wife in her day, who was renowned for her quite forward thinking advice for expectant women in the 50s & 60s. The gist of it was to “drop your shoulders, relax, don’t be fearful, it’s a positive experience, regardless of the pain.” Reading the comments from people who she helped, it struck me that many had applied her labour advice to every day stressful situations. “Drop your shoulders.” Such a simple act but one that releases the anger, the frustration, the physicality of the cliché - ‘pent up’. I’m going to try and take it on board. Add it to the things to say to myself in certain situations.
Just drop your shoulders for a quick second. Keep them there. Deep breath. Move on.
