My love for Irish artist Maser grows. Every time I drive by the ‘In a world full of shame…’ piece in Dublin, the same thought comes in to my head, and that is ‘Aaargh I f*cking love it.’ Every single time - same thought. Eloquence is my virtue. ; )
Roxy Rhinestone is one of Ireland most established Burlesque performers and has been performing nationally and internationally since 2005. Her performances combine elements of classic burlesque with a modern comic twist. The good news for those of you interested in learning some skills of a sultry-shaking-it nature is that Roxy will be passing on her knowledge of performance and tease in a 3 hour workshop for beginners!
All props will be provided, except nipple tassels (<one of my most favourite sentences on this blog ever!!)…. So if you have some bring them and if not there will be some available for sale at the class at prices from 20 euro upwards.
The class is on this Saturday, 28th August , starting at 10am until 1pm and will cost 35 euro per person.
I have been meaning to post about Conor Nolan and David Wall for around a year now, ever since I saw their incredible work for Circus store. I love their typography and, yes, to sound like a complete nerd, how clean their work is..I also love the pixellated diamonds in the last image, which was part of a campaign for Red Bull.
Conor studied in the National College of Art & Design, Dublin and Elisava Escola Superior de Disseny, Barcelona, graduating with a first-class honours degree and commendation, while David studied in the National College of Art & Design, Dublin and Lahti University of Applied Sciences, Finland, graduating in 2002 with a first-class honours degree. Since they founded a studio together in March 2006, the focus of Conor & Davidʼs work has been to create thoughtful, rational, content-driven graphic design for print and screen, for a wide variety of clients including Open House Dublin, Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Model Arts and Niland Gallery, The National College of Art & Design, National Campaign for the Arts, Irish Architecture Foundation, Architectural Association of Ireland…jeez…nice line up!
Check out the rest of their incredible body of work on their website <here>
I’m not doing Fancy Friday til tomorrow. I’m all worded and image sourced out and I like to think about things for a bit before attempting to put them in to the words that will get my rambling thoughts across. I also want to be sure what those rambling thoughts are, as they have been changing a lot this week - it’s been a very interesting time in my little life.
So I admit defeat. Here is 10, 11 and 12….. 13 will be Fancy Saturday.
Thanks for joining in any way and next Friday 13th I’ll decide to do it BEFORE 1pm that day and have stuff prepared! Or not. I might just ignore this date for ever more. : )
Incredible shoot from the archives of Dazed & Confused magazine. There is something about the slick evil feeling from black feathers that is just a bit of a thrill.
Thank youStereomood , for introducing me to Maxence Cyrin. He’s a French pianist who’s covered artists such as Justice, MGMT and My Bloody Valentine. I really like his version of ‘No Cars Go’ by Arcade Fire and absolutely LOVE his version of ‘Where is my mind..’ by the Pixies.
As forStereomood - as Biggie would say if he mixed up the tenses of the lyrics of ’Juicy’… and eh…if he was still alive : “If you didn’t know, now you know.” I only just discovered it via ‘Luc’s Chlif’ and I don’t how I lived without it before now. Well, that may be unnecessarily dramatic but it is pretty amazing. I think I may have had too much coffee today.
I’m slighty in lust with the defragmented approach to shoots at the moment, would love to do stuff like this in the new studio. (add us on facebook >here< if you like!)..images above fromFashion Gone Rogue.
I would quite like to recreate this George Washington meets an aged Diana Ross look for a shoot in the new studio (which is opening on Friday - scary biscuits.)
I just love Moselle’s photography, and no, not just because we did some shoots together! I think she is just incredibly talented, with a serious appreciation and understanding of capturing colour and interest in her images. I think these three are my favourites, but it’s very hard to choose! See more of her work >here< and >here<
I learned today that my car has to be scrapped, following my altercation with black ice over Christmas. Must buy a new one. I reckon I’ll either have to get a banger for the time being, or, if funds are relatively stable, a Nissan Figaro. I know they’re pretty common now, but I’ve wanted one for 8 years so…
However, if all else fails, I’ll get this moped. Yes it looks like a dodgem car, but I kind of need it.
I apologise for the long holiday from the blog, had a car crash, so spent a while relaaaxing, and have been making up for the relaxing over the last few days. Hangovers aside, it’s back to business, with a whole load of new post ideas for the New Year, as well as keeping the old ones ticking over too. Hopefully…
To start with, I must have this camper-bike design bu Kevin Cyr. Must have it. Not quite sure what I’d do with it, cycle into town and kip in it after a night out? Bring it to New York and live in it? Just look at it every day and tell it; ‘you’re cool and I own you..’?
Found this >here<…words to live by….wish I’d found it around three years ago. My friend is a stylist, she decided a while back to just stop working for free. Since then she always gets paid.
It seems simple, though a lot of you will know how difficult it is to quantify your work..working for free is fine if there is some kind of appropriate reward or recompense - such as prints for time, or invaluable experience etc, it’s a barter, or a favour for a friend you’ve known well for at least two years. After that, if you charge nothing, or charge cheap, I think you kind of set your worth.
That’s the frame of thinking I’m trying anyway, after years of not believing that I should get paid because, well… I loved doing the work so much! But unfortunately, love of work does not the rent pay….
I was browsing through some blogs on my break, and this image just made me say oooh! I don’t know what kind of flowers they are, so if you do, please share!
An absolutely amazing post and interview with Melbourne street artist; Miso, over on The Design Files. I am so glad I stumbled upon this, as she is truly, truly talented and inspiring. She is also making me feel incredibly untalented through her being truly, truly talented and inspiring..! Her use of sketching and paper as a form of street art is just brilliant, as is her collaborations with other artists, and her positioning of her work on the street. Check out her website >here< after reading the full wonderful article on The Design Files.
I had to repost these illustrations from the utterly fantastic fashion blog : Stylebubble. I would give my left arm or at the very least, a little finger, to be able to create fashion illustrations such as these ones from Danish Design School graduate Ann-Sofie Madsen. The images of her actual finished garments show how well she translated her pieces from the thoughts in her head, which I imagine is an incredibly difficult thing to do, unless you;re somewhat of a genius like Ann-Sofie. View the rest of the images oer on Stylebubble >>here<<.
It’s that time of the week again - when I just put up any old random image I please. Wait - every day is that particular time of the week here on this, my own little world of random nonsense. Ah well, nothing wrong with randomness. Enjoy.
If I ever got off my sorry scared ass and started making huge word filled canvases (canvii?) they would be along these lines…. they would also be as large as the image below from photographer Jean Pierre Lemoine, via Desire to Inspire.
I was very thrilled to have my photo of a road sign in Barcelona included on the blog ‘Design Curiosities’ Weekly Foto Round-up. This is such a lovely blog - check it out! >here<, and see my image in the full post >here< …yay!
