I am always putting my work images up on ‘the facebook’ and neglecting to share them on this blog, which really defeats the purpose to an extent!  Here are some images from a shoot last year, on which I was the Art Director. (I’m sure there’s a better way of constructing the last sentence, but it escapes me right now…) The photographer was Moselle Foley, and the shoot was for Rosemarie Durr and her quite iconic pottery. We had a loose concept of ‘pottery as part of my life’, showing it used in work/home situations. This shoot remains one of my favourites, and not least because the client was wonderful to work with…

I hope you like it, see more from the shoot >here< and please do visit both Rosemarie and Moselle’s lovely sites too.

AT HOME WITH ANNE BARBER

For the second ‘at-home’ feature in the Irish Independent Weekend magazine, photographer Dylan Vaughan and I visited the beautiful Anne Barber at home.  Anne owns one of my favourite shops - Butterslip in Kilkenny ( where I procured the necklace and brooches for the Sunday Times feature!) This feature was a great excuse to satisfy my curiosity - I’ve often wondered what her home looks like, considering how imaginative her shop is…I wasn’t disappointed.

Here’s the interview below, more after the jump!

A VINTAGE WONDERLAND

Anne Barber has become incredibly adept at creating stylish places from tired old properties. She transformed an old angling store in Kilkenny in to ‘Butterslip’, a shop that has become somewhat of a destination for those seeking beautiful trinkets and objects for the home and wardrobe, a ‘treasure trove’ of a store in the true meaning of the term.

Her home, pictured here, is also the result of this ability. Once a simple council terraced house from the 60s, as Anne describes it - “perfectly proportioned mini house,” is now a vintage haven of incredible style. The colourful mish-mash of furniture and accessories creates an overwhelming feeling of comfort, antiquity and delicate sophistication.

This is my first interiors feature for the Irish Independent Weekend magazine, which was published two weeks ago. I think the second one is out this Saturday… The idea is that I visit a home which is truely eclectic and unique, and then find five products on the internet or in stores that are inspired by this home. (These are coming up in the next post..)

This home was photographed by the fantastic Dylan Vaughan - a huge thank you to him for the use of the images for this post. We both had great fun visiting the Watts’ home -  the owner Tom has just started a new cucumber pickle company, so we were fed very well on our trip. You REALLY have to try these pickles, even if you think you don’t like them - you’ll love these. Does that make sense? Anyway - visit his ‘Secret Recipe Company’ facebook page >here< and his blog >here< You can also visit his ‘Imagine Wallpaper’ company page >here<!

Now to the article at hand… All the info for the photos is after the jump! >

“Tom Watts and his family have created a home that is an idyllic fusion of comfortable family living and incredible design features. As with the best kind of fusion type situations, neither style overwhelms the other – the incredible pieces sourced from flea markets and auction rooms across the world sit back quietly in each room and watch family life mosey along without getting in the way.

The successful renovation of this farmhouse in Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny is unsurprising - Watts is renowned for his innovation in bespoke digitally printed interior products. Through his company, Imagine Wallpaper, he prints designs on to almost every surface, be it wallpaper, tiles or even glass kitchen doors.

The family inherited the home four and a half years ago, moving in even though it was in a somewhat disheveled state. In 2008, Tom, along with just one labourer, Arek Kowalek, began the refurbishment – a period that proved both fraught, rewarding and at times even peculiar. At one stage they decided to make the back of the house become the front of the house - effectively turning the house around. When they went to knock a new entrance into the old rear wall of the house, they found an ancient front door already in situ. They had unknowingly followed the design footprint of an ancestral tenant……

I am so behind on my thank you posts - but better late than never - right? Eek!

Rosemary MacCabe from the Irish Times asked us in Shutterbug Studio to design the perfect Summer t-shirt back in June. Yes JUNE. And here is the post in September. I’m a sham and I know I am.

We decided to design a wolf t-shirt, as wolf t-shirts are generally deadly and we wanted to be kind of deadly. However, we then decided that there could  be nothing better than a PRIVATE DETECTIVE WOLF who smokes a pipe, and so that is what we created.

My friend David loved the design so we had one made especially for him to wear  - which he did recently while in Los Angeles. I think this means our design can now come with the tagline ‘AS SEEN IN HOLLYWOOD’ or something, right?!  : )

I hope you like it! Thanks again times a million to Rosemary for asking Shutterbug to take part…

So with this post I get to kill three Irish birds with one stone, athough I don’t mean birds in the Cockney way…

Here is one of my favourite Irish bloggers Rhona from Rose Tinted Uncertainty, photographed by us in Shutterbug and wearing a tulle skirt by Bonzie. Oh!..and my friend Laura Cunningham (Irish) had used this skirt in a shoot she styled for MTV’s Laura Whitmore (Irish) so I held on to it for a shoot before Bonzie collected it….well now this post is veritably made of Irish.

How beautiful and like a young version of Julianne Moore is Rhona? Very is the answer I would give anyway… : )

One more shoot post from Ciúin Tracey, bit of a crazy/evil/demented take on a regular ball-going ‘ensemble’…There are just so many images from the shoot so these posts may continue for quite some time! Thank you Ciúin!

.My friend and I were just talking about the kind of stuff we wear on a night out, and how maybe we should ‘tone it down’ a bit…then I decided, well no, when I’m 70-odd, I’ll look back at my 20-odd year old self and say - ‘why the hell didn’t you go even crazier you silly girl.’ So in conclusion, I dress the way I do on a night out in order to keep my future self  satisfied. As good a reason as I can muster.

Gown - Around €120.00 Karen Millen, Kildare Outlet Village.

Belt - €15.00 Bay Trading

Feather Bolero - €5.00 Sue Ryder Charity Shop, Kilkenny.

Image by Ciúin Tracey. Post-production by me.

P.S I am going to start doing the normal macbook camera outfit posts again though, as I don’t tend to wear ballgowns toddling about the place on a day to day basis..well, maybe every second day..

My second interiors feature is in the Irish Independent property supplement today (Fri)…It’s a segment called ‘Put your stamp on it..‘, where I take a house that’s currently on the market for sale, and give it a hypothetical makeover using products sourced from around Ireland and the internet.

I also go to an interiors store and set up a room in the style I think would suit the home, and this time around, photographer Andrew Clancy and I paid a visit to the beautiful SKI interiors in Naas. The second image is a small selection from the products featured today, including the beautiufl, and incredibly affordable hand painted sideboard from Strawbridge in Co. Wicklow.

You can see more in the Independent today, I hope you like it!

Here’s our second episode of ‘All of This’, shot on location in Oxfam in Rathmines. In this episode, we showed a black lace number, a sliiightly demented office wear look, and a host of retro dresses that they are bringing down to the shop floor for Hallowe’en..unless you don’t need that excuse and like yourself some retro…

This was SUCH a lovely shoot, with the very beautiful model Naomi Casey, the brilliant production team; Helen and Emer, and our very special assistant on the day - Zarah Casey, who you can hear at 1′59″! You can kind of tell from the out takes at the end that we spent much of the time larking about, it was a fun day at the office!

You can WIN the black lace dress - it’s very simples - all you have to do is ‘cast your guess’ (yeah, I don’t know why I said that either…) as to how much YOU think Oxfam in Rathmines were selling the black lace dress for. You can do this over on >> Style Nation<< ,on >>Twitter, <<or on>> Facebook<<!. Click on the links to join in the game! It’ll take about two seconds and you could get yourself an elegant black lace dress for nada…good deal!

My very first interiors feature for the Irish Independent is out today - it’s a re-style of a home for sale, featuring lots of affordable products from around Ireland and the interweb, paint colours, couch options, accessories etc. Take a look at it if it takes your fancy!

I’ll be featuring all the stuff on the blog here next week, including a piece on the very cool Irish photographer, Moselle Foley, and some lovely stores around Ireland.

Hope you like it, I’m pretty thrilled to be in it…I’m most definitely very lucky, and I’m working on the second one as I type. Well, once I get off this blog, that is.

x Blanaid…(Fancy Friday on the way!)

Image above : Photograph by Andrew Clancy. Room styled by me, in the beautiful ‘Brambles’ store in Abbeyleix, Co. Laois.

Part of the absence from the blog last week was due to the fact that I was filming my very first piece for Style Nation.ie. In a new programme entitled ‘All of This’, I travel to charity shops around the country and put together a few outfits. Then YOU have the opportunity to win one of the outfits by playing the ‘All of This’ guessing name on Style Nation! Simples.

This week, we travelled to Oxfam on George’s Street and put together three or four outfits…and out of ‘all of this’ (!) we chose the H-AMAZING Karen Millen gold sequinned, drape back, long sleeved mini-dress as the prize of prizes. Watch the video above and get over to Style Nation.ie to guess the OXFAM price of the dress, not the original price, and you may just have a shiny, sparkly new number in your wardrobe for Christmas!

A HUGE thank you to the producer - Helen O’ Reilly from Straywave, who is a seriously multi-skilled multi-tasker, and made me feel incredibly at ease on this, my first time presenting to camera on my own. She’s a Burlesque dancer too, legend. And also to Dawn, our model, who was very patient and kind, and gorgeous! Which is handy…!

VISIT >> STYLE NATION.ie << TO ENTER THE COMPETITION OR DIRECT MESSAGE THEM ON >> TWITTER<<

My outfit :

Vintage red fringed leather jacket : €45.00 Oxfam, George’s St.

Black Double U neck dress : €38.00 American Apparel

Shoes : €80.00 Topshop

Hope you like the video!

x Blanaid

P.S Here’s a hint to the price : it was a seriously expensive dress to buy originally, so remember that Oxfam wanted to get the most they could for it, as it is a ‘future classic’… think less than a hundred euro but….;)

blanaid

Welcome to my blog! Allow myself to introduce myself, my name is Blanaid Hennessy. I used to be the only Blanaid Hennessy and then some other Blanaid bird in Waterford married a guy called Richard Hennessy (no relation, to me, or her…) and now there are two Blanaid Hennessys…but! I have devised a cunning plan to beat her in google, and that is to type Blanaid Hennessy a lot in this post. Take that Blanaid Hennessy (2)!!! I’m not saying that I hope they get divorced….(joking!)

At this stage in internetting history, there is no real need to go into a big boring spiel about what I intend to do on here, save for the fact that it is expected of me to do just that in the very first post…so I shall.

I’ll be posting on: outfits, shoots, interiors, design, media, photoshop tutorials, stuff I’m selling, a song I like, shoes I fancy, boys that are nice and other randomness and frivolity that is completely and totally unnecessary.

Sometimes I’ll post on an outfit I’ll be wearing, other times on a shoot in a magazine I liked, or I’ll feature a house I’ve been working on…as I said - randomness and frivolity, randomness and frivolity. Good times.

I’ll be updating most days, so please, add me to your bookmarks and come pay a visit every now and again.
