You know the moment when you suddenly fall in love? I had such a flash lust when I saw the work of Irish illustrator and fashion designer Kitty Moss. Firstly - her nom de plume is pretty perfect. Secondly, her illustrations are stylishly accomplished, and finally - the clothes. SWOON. The clothes. I love the characters she has created, Maud and Minet, with as much affection for their look along with their own names. Above are the illustrations, below is some of the collection and in between, beneath here, are Kitty Moss’ own words. Read and see more at Maud & Minet, and buy prints online >here<

“I am a designer and illustrator based in Dublin and I go by the name Kitty Moss. I studied Fine Art and then Fashion.  I have just started a label and hopefully it will grow and evolve…

It is based around two characters Maud and Minet, Maud, is a stylish ghost and Minet is her loyal floating cat. The idea is that I document this lady as she glides ghoulishly through the veil of our world floating through parties and the media merry-go-round. It is both a homage and a playful satire on the fashion industry.

Maud is my muse and I am channeling her through illustration but also through Fashion Design and I have made a collection inspired by her.

All the garments on my site are available made to order and are all hand made from the finest of silks, leathers and hand dyed wools. Each piece is unique to the wearer and embedded with the spirit of my muse, a spirit that is spookily sweet, darkly romantic and playfully poised.”

I adore this belt. It’s pricey - but I mean it when I say I adore it like a false-god-belt. The styling in the lifestyle shots is pretty amazing too.

I love this concept. Popshot Magazine - “a bi-annual British based arts publication that champions contemporary poetry and illustration”  recently launched ‘The Print Shop’, which they descirbe as ” an opportunity to bring beautiful and affordable illustration prints to the walls of visual art/illustration lovers around the world.”

Basically, after working  with 100 illustrators for their magazine, they decided to take six of the finest illustrations from the past two years and turn them into collectable art prints. Each illustration is Giclee printed, produced in limited edition runs of 150 and measures at a very large 550mm x 675mm.

You can find out more by visiting >here<. I particularly like the work of Esra Roise, who’s work many of you may recognise. The opportunity to own a giclee print of hers for £45.00 plus p&p is quite appealing!

Our store Shutterbug will feature on TV3’s ‘Xposé’ tomorrow (Thursday) at 6pm. The fashion slot, presented by the lovely Angela Scanlon, will feature some of our stuff modeled by Lauren Bejaoui, who we use on our Asos boutique too.

We’re very excited here in the studio, and very grateful for all of the support that we’ve received. Honestly, it sounds disingenuous but it is genuinely very overwhelming.

Too many layers but how and ever. Pile them on, take them off - the weather is, at best, erratic. I can’t complain though - I do like layers. Most of the stuff is from my own shop, Shutterbug, but I do now dress mostly from there. It’s about as convenient as you can get. : )

blanaid-la-holidayTrying to figure out this polyvore malarkey to plan my perfect suitcase for Los Angeles. Not sure the images should be so pixellated once posted but I’m more than likely doing something wrong. Here’s the link to the original anyway!

Here’s my actual version of the dream above. (Considerably less money spent…) Outfit posts will follow from L.A. featuring the stuff mentioned below and hopefully some new bits, as I’m heading over to buy/work also…! I will try not to go on about it too much, but I’ve never been and I’m quite ridiculously excited!

Clockwise from top >>

Vintage sweatshirt - mine has a gold eagle on it - present from Dave.

Maxi skirt - Vintage - €5.00.

Kimono - the one pictured  is Winter Kate. I’ve become obsessed with kimonos and bought my vintage velvet one on ebay for €59.00.

I love eclectic vintage style tiles, but they can be difficult, and expensive to find. Therefore, I am in love with Louise Body’s new wallpaper - it looks just like tiles, but so much easier.

Another Irish designer  in this extended ‘week’- though this one is now based in Ney York, Sandra Murphy is truly representing the nu-wave of vintage inspired collections. Her imagery for her label ‘Recollection‘ is sensational too - it was hard to pick just a few for this post. Pop over to her site for a minute!

This pretty collection is by Irish designer Katie Harte for her etsy store Pure Harte. This vintage inspired photoshoot was a collaboration with Alice from Aliquo boutique, who created the jewellery. Both designer’s sell online and in the Loft Market, in the Powerscourt S.C, Dublin. Sigh - I love this shoot, it makes me want to dress like a proper girl.

Apologies for my absence, I was off doing a shoot for a potential shop I may have on the Asos marketplace. This was a street style shoot, featuring clothes I may be selling online, and forthwith henceforth may I present a sample from the shoot - more to come once it all goes live!

Thanks to my lovely team - the amazing model Lauren Bejaoui and the fantastic photographer Ciuin Tracey. Yes, those are their official titles. They were knighted by the Queen and all.

Every now and again I get to go on to RTE 2’s Two Tube programme to chat about fashion and the like with the lovely Sinéad Kennedy. It’s great fun, once I get over the nerves. Yesterday I wore an outfit ‘kind of’ inspired by my new favourite programme (until’ Mad Men returns) - HBO’s ‘Deadwood.’ I know it was cancelled, and out, years ago etc, but I just got around to watching the box set and it is phenomenal. Anyway - E.B Farnum, thanks for the inspiration!

Anway - here’s what I wore…a huge thank you to Dave Coffey who took the photos, even though the light was against us! : )

Shirt - Charity shop, Sligo.

Braces - Dave’s.

Velvet bow - €14.00 American Apparel

Pleather skirt - apx €13.0o Penneys

First up : My outfit today is a bit of a mash up. It’s warm, it’s cold, it’s comfy. Shorts from Electric Picnic, still hanging around. Still wearing the long shawl, because, while I have be-short-ed bare legs, it actually covers the back of them. Which for some reason makes me feel more covered up. Even though, technically, yep, legs still out.

Cardigan : €20.00 Fanci Shmancy downstairs in Flip, Temple Bar. My new favourite place in Dublin. Much luck to the chaps on their new place!

Top : €1.00 originally Urban Outfitters. Charity Shop.

Black shawl cardigan : €86.00 courtesy of American Apparel.

Short necklace : €5.00 Lucy’s Lounge, Temple Bar.

Long necklace : Present, charity shop.

Shorts : €5.00 mens jeans cut up, Penneys.

Bandanna as belt : €6.95 H&M

Gold belt : €20.00 Zara

Socks : Free, robbed from sister.

Shoes : apx€120.00 Zara.

Ring : around four years old, from Tempted.

Part two : I got some new long hair. Yes,all bought and paid for and not grown myself.  I got it in Anna Danielles in Urlingford, Co. Kilkenny. I’ve been toddling out to Joan there for the last four years. They dyed this ‘flip in’ extension to match my current ’smokey’ blonde situation. No clips, just a wired kind of set up. Simples. .

And finally : My boyfriend has to go to LA a lot, which is sad-face, but he goes to vintage stores while he’s there and brings me back things (happy-face!) like this - a sweatshirt that has an panther and a snowmobile on it…. I mean, what more could you need on a sweatshirt?! Thank you!

I genuinely love the new Oxfam t-shirts. created in association with a range of Irish Designers. The collection is called ‘We Are Tee’ and includes designs by Joanne Hynes, Peter O’Brien, Eilis Boyle, Una Burke and Alison Connelly.

Prices range from €30- €35 and are exclusively available to purchase from A/wear.com. All orders come with free delivery direct to your door courtesy of A|wear. All the proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts will go to Oxfam Ireland.

Beautiful styling by the lovely Angela Scanlon, shot by the talented Johnny Savage. I also recognise two faces in the above shot, a Miss Alex Donald and Kelly Barnes - don’t they all look fantastic? Well played ladies! : )

Tired month -  resort to black. It takes less effort, thought, energy. It makes you feel a little more invisible, like maybe you don’t have to engage so that you can just get on with your work. Yes, it allows you to be a little hermit.

This is one of those hermit-y months, but it’s nearly over. Thank the small lord. Thanks also to American Apparel, who sent me this ’shawl’ cardigan. At first I thought - ‘I’ll never wear that.’ Oh how wrong I was. I pretty much wore it for  the duration of September. It goes with everything, it feels nice, it’s long. It has sleeves. It has nice shoulders. It doesn’t swamp you. It’s a shawl. It’s a cardigan. I love it.

I don’t have pierced ears, and I find clip-ons quite uncomfortable. I do love Jonsi. All of this leads me to believe and deduce that I should own one of this feather ear cuffs from Style Hurricane. They cost around $35.00 and I must own one..or two. Not sure which - maybe just the silver crosses, or go mad and get the silver crosses and feathers. Actually I think I’d get the silver crosses with >these< feathers AND a second pair with the red feathers. Am in love.

Buy them via Style Hurricane.

blanaid-favourite-things-irishI hope you don’t mind that I’ve chosen my favourite Irish made item from these stores rather than just feature the stores themselves. I will be doing store posts too, but I just loved these items on their own merit so much I had to share.

1. One of my favourite Irish e-stores, Mabel & Violet, have an entire ‘Made In Ireland’ section which is fantastic. I’m particularly in absolute love with this smoky quartz cocktail ring from Juvi. €89.95

2. Richard Conway pointed me in the direction of  Kathy Coleman’s shop on etsy - ‘Girl Can’t Talk’. How much do I need this yellow feathered bib in my life? THIS much. Amazingness. $80.00

3. It wouldn’t be a post on Irish hand-made-edness withouth featuring the craftsmanship from Bonzie. This duo never cease to impress, and their new tiered skirt design is most definitely on my wish list. I would wear it all day long while eating lots of cake and drinking champagne. I’m not sure why I’d feel the need to do those things - it just seems like the proper way to spend the day while wearing tulle. $190.00

Lots more posts on the way..!
