blanaid-favourite-things-irishI hope you don’t mind that I’ve chosen my favourite Irish made item from these stores rather than just feature the stores themselves. I will be doing store posts too, but I just loved these items on their own merit so much I had to share.

1. One of my favourite Irish e-stores, Mabel & Violet, have an entire ‘Made In Ireland’ section which is fantastic. I’m particularly in absolute love with this smoky quartz cocktail ring from Juvi. €89.95

2. Richard Conway pointed me in the direction of  Kathy Coleman’s shop on etsy - ‘Girl Can’t Talk’. How much do I need this yellow feathered bib in my life? THIS much. Amazingness. $80.00

3. It wouldn’t be a post on Irish hand-made-edness withouth featuring the craftsmanship from Bonzie. This duo never cease to impress, and their new tiered skirt design is most definitely on my wish list. I would wear it all day long while eating lots of cake and drinking champagne. I’m not sure why I’d feel the need to do those things - it just seems like the proper way to spend the day while wearing tulle. $190.00

Lots more posts on the way..!

new-look-blanaid

New Look picked this site as one of their favourite Irish Fashion Blogs, which was a lovely surprise. They were celebrating 20% off for Irish shoppers. It was even nicer to be mentioned alongside some of my personal favourite bloggers such as:

Male Mode

Whisty Blogs Dublin Fashion

Ripped Knees

She’s in Vogue

Becky Dazzler

Which got me to thinking - I’d like even more favourite blogs to be visiting along with the loveliness of the above. If you have, or know, a fashion or interiors blog, feel free to leave your link in the comments section! The more, the merrier.

(I may need to de-spam your comment with link, but will do asap!)

So there I am now on the cover of the Sunday Times Home supplement. I was in London when my friend Dave text me to say I was on the cover. I stopped breathing for quite a while. QUITE a while. The Sunday Times is something of a bible type situation for me. We’ve been buying it in every household I’ve lived in for as long as my memory can remember.

Anyway, back to the start of the story - this was a group shoot we did for the Oxfam project, organised by the lovely Dara Flynn (who not only writes for the Sunday Times, is editor of House and Home magazine but also upcycled a piece for the project.) The photographer, Brian Meade was in great form and we had a bit of fun when trying to do some kind of ‘different’ pose with a chair. The shot on the cover was following Brian’s direction of ‘You’re the 50 foot woman! You’re knocking down buildings!’ etc… Of course, I always forget people will actually see the result of leaping about chairs for photos, but I think he did a pretty cool job - it’s certainly different anyway, and I do like different! :) Absolutely amazing coverage for this worthwhile project - you can still bid on the pieces >here< Please do forward that link on to anyone you think may be interested - it’s all for a good cause!

Once again - a huge thank you to Dara Flynn, the Sunday Times, Brian Meade and Oxfam of course for asking me to take part.

The ‘out-take’ photo below the group shot is courtesy of Oxfam!

tallulahSometimes you see a website full of clothes, that makes you want to throw out every single item of clothes in your wardrobe, buy the site’s full stock, pack said new stock into some suitcases and head off to live in a white villa in the South of France.

Tallulah and Hope is one such site. *sigh*

As you may or may not know, I’ve written a couple of interiors features for the Irish Independent (< click to read the first article)recently; where I take a property that’s for sale and give it a hypothetical makeover using products sourced from around Ireland and the internet.

Soooo…over the next few weeks, I’m going to post all of the products I’ve found on my trawls, in the hopes they may be of some use, even if it’s just to look at…!

I’ll also upload the PDF’s of the articles when I get an afternoon..

My second interiors feature is in the Irish Independent property supplement today (Fri)…It’s a segment called ‘Put your stamp on it..‘, where I take a house that’s currently on the market for sale, and give it a hypothetical makeover using products sourced from around Ireland and the internet.

I also go to an interiors store and set up a room in the style I think would suit the home, and this time around, photographer Andrew Clancy and I paid a visit to the beautiful SKI interiors in Naas. The second image is a small selection from the products featured today, including the beautiufl, and incredibly affordable hand painted sideboard from Strawbridge in Co. Wicklow.

You can see more in the Independent today, I hope you like it!

Lorna from Garrenndenny Lane Interiors is one of those lovely people you happen upon, who will give you a helping hand when you most need it, even if you’re a complete stranger. AND she has a very pretty blog, online store and interior design service - so I thought that you lovely people might like to meet one another ..

Lorna is based between Carlow and Kilkenny, where she offers an interior design consultancy service and stock designer fabrics and wallpapers, including Designers Guild, Swaffer, Jab, Andrew Martin, Sanderson, GP & J Baker, Voyage, Lorient, James Brindley. Her online shop stocks fabulous little gifts and home accessories. Take a wee look-see >>here <<… Her blog is an interior design blog with a bit of farming and rural Irish life thrown in for good measure. She writes about new looks, interior design trends, things she like, and she aims to do an Interior design solution most Fridays ….

Lorna is also holding a competition on her blog and Facebook page at the moment - you could win a hamper full of really, incredibly GOOD goodies if you becomes a fan of my facebook page during the month of October - here’s the link to the facebook page >> here << and to the blog post  >>here<<.

3-potato-four-blanaid

Love this poster from the fantastic online store ‘Three Potato Four’. It’s just such a fantastic illustration, and  would look great in either a child’s room or a modernist living room. Perfecto!

Buy it >here< for $48.00..

work-hard-blanaid

I love this classic letterpress poster ‘Work hard and Be Nice to People’, by Anthony Burill…although I prefer to read it as ‘Work Hard AT being Nice to People’…!

It fits perfectly into THIS Ribba frame from Ikea. (I went for the oak veneer)

Click here to buy print for £30.00 from Soma.

Ikea are FINALLY open in the ROI…meaning an end to those exhausting ik-trips to Belfast, yay! The majorly good news is that there is no Topshop-esque price difference, in fact, if you are buying for your business and getting the VAT back, it’s actually cheaper as our VAT rate is higher than the North. (* I’m not an accountant so I’m prepared to be wrong on this…*)

The bad news? The new room set-ups on their website are so overstyled, it’s blinding. I’ve always thoroughly enjoyed the Ikea catalogues, they’re great inspiration…but this latest collection of shots is just TOO jammed with stuff, with the furniture laid out in an unsettling unsymmetrical manner . I managed to find three that pleased me well enough though..(see above.)

The Maskros light fixture (€105.00) in the first and last image is by far my favourite thing from the PS collection…it’s not on the Irish site just yet, so see it >here <

Using floorboards on the walls (second photo) is just a bit clever and retro! I like it!

Oh P.S - Do you want to buy new covers for your Ikea furniture, but don’t like the spare cover designs in Ikea? Check out BemzThey have wonderful selection of covers made in a variety of fabrics, and all made to fit Ikea couches and armchairs!

P.P.S Buying lots of stuff, but don’t want to put it together? Check out THE ‘best-named’ flatpack putter-togetherers : ‘Simple Assembly Me Hole’ They ‘ll put all the flatpacked stuff together for you and charge a flat fee of €30.00 per item. Good deal if you like having any kind of time left in the day and unchewed finger nails.

Are you going to pay a visit to Ikea? Got any favourite or definite purchases? Share them!

First up we have  my new lovely love - stitsh a streetsyle blog with a difference. These genii tell you where you can buy stuff similar to what the streetstyl-er is wearing, and this pleases me. It’s great to use Street Style images as inspiration when going shopping and all that jazz, but so much better to just click and shop. *sigh*

Part two is ffffound - which is exactly that, a collection of images fond all over the interweb. Some are just beautiful or interesting photos, others are interiors, product design, gig posters…basically things that would be of interest to anyone interested in anything aesthetic. You’ll love it.

Click below to see my current list of links… feel free to send me some sites to check out!
