Found this incredible shoot via one of my favourite Irish fashion blogs, The Style Strutter‘, which is written by Corkonian Cathy Lawson. The shoot is for Vogue Paris, featuring model Natasha Poly. Makes me want to go and buy some patterned pieces.

P.S (Also inspired by Cathy’s P.S..) …Although Blanaid.com didn’t make it to the finals of the Irish Blog Awards, I’m thrilled that myself and Laura Cunningham’s satirical fashion blog The Stylebitches’ made the shortlist for ‘Best Newcomer.’ Thank you for nominating us! x

My taste is slowly, ever so slooowly, reverting back to bygone days - all beehives, nipped in waistlines, full skirts. This shoot is by Terry Tsiolis for Russian Vogue, featuring Inga Eriksdottir, and, while there aren’t many pieces of clothing going on, I love it.

“Style is the perfection of a point of view” Richard Eberhart

Or… “Please may I borrow your point of view…?” Me.

My style is currently in limbo, hence the lack of actual outfit posts. I am trying to ’soften’ my look, following advice from a male friend, but it is SO hard to let go of the black. I’m addicted. So here’s the transtional table, I have to start by mixing black with (shock horror!) other colours and (faint) patterns. Then slowly head to neutral territory, while still firmply grasping a small security blanket bit of black. I can do it.

It may take some time. And a new wardrobe. And some more money to buy said same wardrobe.

Image 1 - Love this entire look. On the list goes : Mac, Breton top, decent black shorts and thigh highs.  Via Because I’m Addicted

Image 2 - I have all manner of black glittery things, but should mix with lighter colours. On the list  goes : pale glitzy things. Via Fashion Gone Rogue

Image 3 - How to wear the khaki trend - the incredible Mireia from My Daily Style does it best : with a hoody and leather leggings.

Image 4 - This kind of colour I can take. On the list goes : navajo style tribal overcoat/cardi. Via Facehunter

Image 5 - Grey! That’s like black, but lighter! I am in love with all things maxi this year. On the list goes : More maxi dresses, more grey. ; ) Via Le Fashion  Image.

Image 6 - Socks with shoes. I know many hate them, but I like. On the list goes : More socks..more shoes (genuinely, I have a woeful collection.) Via Knightcat.

Image 7 - Eleganto! I think I might try some of that -see how it fits.On the list goes : Camel cape. Via Facehunter

Anything on your list at the moment?

ysl-ringWhy would you spend 2K on a diamond engagement ring, when you could have this YSL beauty for €335.00? Stunning. It would almost make me consider the whole marriage thing (in the far, far distant future), OR I could just work hard and buy it for myself. Yeah, think I’ll go with the latter, less hassle. See it >here<

How beautiful was the snow? Much nicer than rain. That’s my profound weather thought for the day.

Here are four snow-bound looks I quite like, two from Lookbook, and two from two new Irish style blogs..yay!  The third image is from Rhona’s new blog > Rose Tinted Uncertainty. Rhona has an incredibly lovely and eclectic vintage style, and her imagery is fantastic. bookmarked!

The fourth image is from Anna’s new blog - Style Girl. I’m already quite in love with this blog, and her inspirational style and posts. Check them out and do say hello!

mia

I had a lovely email from a young Irish designer called Mia O’Connell, who’s launching her new collection in the Fitzwilliam Hotel, this Thursday from 11am  to 8.30pm! So if you’re wandering about town this Thursday, why not pop in and get a little inspired, and perhaps pick something up for the old party season that’s in it…?

Here are the details! > Mia is from Dublin and has previously interned with Marios Schwab, British Vogue, John Rocha and The Times London. Currently working as a freelance designer, she then set up her own work ’The Eight and a Half Project’.  At a first, the project was just a way to keep her sewing, making a few pieces for friends etc and it has grown from there.

The first capsule collection of the project is a series of party dresses and select other pieces, perfect for the festive season.  The essence of the pieces is femininity with a hard edge, for those who choose to be that little bit different. Pieces start at €130.00, with the two accessories pieces (a velvet cowl neck hood and a velvet and wool collar)  priced at €45.00 euros and €50.00
All are welcome to come have a peek , just ask at The Fitzwilliam Hotel reception for directions to the conference room!
Good luck with the launch Mia! Visit Mia’s blog >here<

Lately, I feel my clothes have been kind of…safe, hence the lack of outfit posts. Then, yesterday ,I bought a fantastic vintage dress for a tenner, and I remembered : I quite like clothes. I have silly amounts of them. I don’t wear 75% of the stuff I have…so..I’m off for a bit of a trying on stuff session. Enjoy the images.

Sometimes I kind of lose my way  when it comes to what I actually like wearing..then I look at photos such as these from Knightcat, and I think - yeah I’m a scruffy bird. I’ll go back to that look.

It’s a mini-drama.

The Sartorialist was in Dublin the week before last signing his new book. While here, he photographed three VERY different irish ladies on the street. Somoene wrote in the comments on his site, that he subconsciously captured the three Irish looks : the black haired Irish folk, descended from the Spaniards, the red heads, descended from the Normans, and the tanned blondes, descended from the Vikings. The Sartorialist, being the genius that he is, probably knew all that anyway.

I love this. At first I had a ‘hmmmmm…’ about the jeans, but she just played it so perfectly with the t-shirt colour. The jacket, I kind of won’t rest ’til  I have it.

I have no intention of getting married, but if I ever do, I think I’d have to wear this. I do realise this Fendi S/S ‘10 look does not  contain a whole lot of fabric.. but I’ll add a full skirt part for the church. Honest!

A selection of images of stuff I’d like to wear at Electric Picnic from blogs such as etc, le-fashion, elle and studded hearts - I’ll link them all when I get back this evening/tomorrow.

I’ve decided to go mental at this year’s Electric Picnic. Afro - gold sequins - panther t-shirt from Pa - over the knee boots - red eyeshadow - gothic leggings - blazers….simply because I was just thinking… (prepare thyself..>) we all wait and wait for opportunities to go demented, to play dress up, and then we can chicken out at the last minute. Forget that….I’m going make an effort this year. I draw the line at fairy wings though.

I had to repost these illustrations from the utterly fantastic fashion blog : Stylebubble. I would give my left arm or at the very least, a little finger, to be able to create fashion illustrations such as these ones from Danish Design School  graduate Ann-Sofie Madsen. The images of her actual finished garments show how well she translated her pieces from the thoughts in her head, which I imagine is an incredibly difficult thing to do, unless you;re somewhat of a genius like Ann-Sofie. View the rest of the images oer on Stylebubble >>here<<.

Love this blog - My Daily Style with the stunning (grrr) Mireia in Barcelona. She moves effortlessly from floaty and natural to rock and back again.
